Mark Carney was sworn in as Canada’s 24th prime minister on March 14. Mr. Carney, 59, replaces Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation in January.

Days earlier, Mr. Carney was elected leader of the Liberal Party. He received 86 percent of the votes, a resounding victory.

Getting out of trouble

Mr. Carney has never been elected to political office. He has, however, led the central banks of two countries through turbulent times.
