Do you want a better-working brain? Learn a second language. That’s what a new study out of Montreal shows. The research found that the earlier you learn another language, the better your brain works. In what way? More regions of your brain communicate and work together. That increases your ability to remember, understand, reason, and perform other mental processes.

“If you’re exposed to two languages since birth, your brain has this higher connectivity or higher efficiency,” Xiaoqian Chai, one of the study’s co-authors from McGill University, said.
