It’s official, starting this fall. No more cellphones in the classroom. Students in most provinces are affected.

Why ban phones? Schools want to cut down on distractions. They also want to encourage safe social media use.

What is banned?

The rules vary from province to province. They also differ from school to school.

Some schools may allow phone use at lunch or recess. Others may not allow them at all, even during extracurricular activities. These schools may collect the devices or lock them in special pouches.
